Please help our work

The CFT covers most of our running costs and child care costs from the fees paid to us by local authorities who place children with our carers.
We have traditionally used any surplus funds to pay for "extras" for the children such as school outings, special trips etc. In the present climate we are under increasing pressure from government to reduce our fee levels which, despite our very modest cost levels, leaves less spare funding for these extra items.
We are, therefore, increasingly reliant on donations to support our wider work.

The CFT has made very significant progress since the reorganisation of our operations with the recruitment of a number of specialist administrative staff and the introduction of new computer systems to help us meet the ever growing demands of regulation in the foster care arena.

Our most recent audited accounts for the year ended 31 December 2010 show how effective we are at managing our costs with the vast majority of our expenditure devoted to child care

Over the last 3 years our fee income has grown by nearly 40% from £1.56m in 2008 to £2.17m in 2010 with placements rising by 20 % in the year to December 2010 from 49 to 58. This reflects the growing confidence of Local Authorities in placing children in their care with us.

We have long had an aim of meeting all our costs from earned income – that is fees and interest on invested funds. We have finally achieved this in the last year (2010) and have, at the same time moved into a small surplus on our operations

However, all these favourable results come before the impact of the major cuts imposed by government have begun to hit us. We shall therefore become increasingly reliant on donations of money and assistance to maintain the very high standards of child care we currently deliver, as evidenced by our recent "Outstanding" rating from OFSTED.

We appreciate any form of assistance we receive. This can be by way of finance, one off or regular gifts under the gift aid scheme and legacies. Also we have benefitted in the recent past from sponsored fund raising activities from supporters including a charity dinner and fashion show in the North East and a very strenuous bike ride by one of our Trustees who during the course of one week climbed the three highest peaks in the UK (Ben Nevis, Snowdon & Helvellyn) and what's more, cycled between them.
